CASTING PROCESSES

We offer a range of casting processes and work with our customers to identify the ideal process for each part based on their functional, performance, and business needs.

  • Permanent mold
  • Semi-permanent mold
  • Low-pressure permanent mold
  • Tilt pour permanent mold

HEAT TREATING

We have advanced heat treating capabilities that allow us to produce parts to meet specific requirements related to structure, strength, and performance.

When is permanent mold a better fit than die casting or sand casting?
chervon-down

Permanent mold is often chosen for higher structural integrity, consistent dimensional accuracy, and good surface finish without the high tooling cost/pressure of die casting. Making it a strong middle ground between sand and high-pressure die casting for many geometries.

Does Ramsden help with part design and manufacturability?
chervon-down

Yes. We support programs with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) to reduce complexity and cost while protecting performance targets. Expect early collaboration to de-risk the part before tooling.

Do you run casting simulations before tooling?
chervon-down

Yes. We use process simulation to validate filling, solidification, gating/risers, and cooling paths virtually—so we can minimize turbulence, porosity, cold shuts, and warpage before cutting steel. This shortens development cycles and improves first-time capability.

What are Ramsden’s capabilities?
chervon-down

Our capabilities range from:

  • Parts: From 1 lb (0.5 kg) to 300 lbs (136 kg), using primarily 300-series aluminum alloys.
  • Production Volumes: Up to 100,000 pieces annually.
  • In-House Tooling: Reduces lead times by up to 30%.
  • Advanced Simulation Expertise: State-of-the-art tools to optimize precision and minimize errors.
  • Comprehensive Testing and Validation: X-ray, 3D scanning, and material property analysis.
  • Seamless Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) Integration: Ensures consistency and transparency with milestone tracking at every stage

What part sizes and volumes can you handle?
chervon-down

We typically cast parts from ~1 lb (0.5 kg) to ~300 lbs (136 kg) and scale production up to ~100,000 pieces annually, depending on geometry and process route.

What does your quality framework look like (APQP, validation, approvals)?
chervon-down

We run a structured launch with APQP-style planning, simulation-driven development, sample validation, and customer approval before full production. APQP is an industry framework used to plan and validate product and process quality up front (common in automotive but widely adopted in manufacturing).

Where are you located and what regions do you serve?
chervon-down

We’re based at 128 Oakland Avenue, London, Ontario, Canada, serving customers across North America.
